Finding Clarity in Seasons of Transition

Every major step in my own journey—medical training, leadership roles, ministry assignments—was preceded by a season of transition. Those in‑between times can be unsettling. You know you can’t stay where you are, but you’re not sure where you’re going next.

If you’re in that space right now, you’re not lost—you’re in a process.

Ask Better Questions, Not Just for Faster Answers

Our natural instinct is to ask, “What should I do next?” A better starting point is:

“Who am I becoming?”

“What has God been emphasizing in this season?”

“What strengths and passions consistently show up in my story?”

When you understand who you are becoming, the what becomes clearer.

Pay Attention to Patterns, Not Just Opportunities

Not every open door is your door. Look for patterns:

The types of problems you’re drawn to solve

The people groups you consistently feel burdened for

The environments where your gifts seem to multiply

These patterns are often clues to your assignment.

Move With Prayerful, Practical Experiments

Clarity grows as you move, not as you wait in paralysis. Volunteer. Take a course. Shadow someone in a field you’re considering. Have conversations with mentors and leaders you trust.

Small, low‑risk experiments can reveal whether a path aligns with your values, strengths, and sense of calling.

You may not see the full roadmap, but you can walk faithfully with the light you have now—and trust that the next step will become visible at the right time.
